Set Out Running

Like many people in recent years, having faced downsizing and layoffs, my husband Ian found himself much like the saber-tooth cat in the closing sequence of “The Flintstones” being set outside for the night. There was no longer room for him in the industry he had worked in and loved for 15 years. It was a difficult time for sure but it allowed him time to grieve and think about what was next.

We intend on raising chickens and pigs once we reach the point where we are living “on farm”, so we have been busy reading about livestock practices and Ian is getting a lot of hands-on experience with chickens, pigs, ducks and quail at the farm where he works. As time goes by, he gets more and more passionate about raising pigs. We see ourselves raising heritage breeds when the time comes.
